Senior cup sees sensational stars seize shiny prize!
Kibworth made their annual Voyage to Blackpool for this year's Spring Festival on the 20th May. They played in the Senior Cup this year amongst a strong field of 18 bands with the intention of being placed in the top four which would see them promoted to the Grand Shield in 2008. The journey was peaceful for all, the sun was shining, the sea was blue and the band was excited about putting on a good performance. Ok, well the M6 was jammed, the sky was grey and as was the sea, but the band were still looking forward to playing their little hearts out... They were drawn number 8 much to the pleasure of those players who wanted to nip to the local pub to watch the FA cup! They gave a solid performance to a sizeable audience (as well as adjudicators David Read and Stephen Mead) and came away feeling pleased with their efforts. After a day buying sticks of rocks, watching the FA cup, listening to the competition, paddling and admiring the picturesque views of beautiful Blackpool everybody was elated to hear of the result... they were placed 3rd which guarantees them a place in next year's Grand shield. All in all, a great weekend and a good time had by all!

Kibworth are First Section National Champions 2006
After a busy summer playing in venues as diverse as the Sports ground at Oakham School for the Leicestershire versus Northamptonshire annual cricket match, St James Park London to entertain both tourists and Londoners alike and Newark Castle Grounds for a firework concert The Kibworth Band, led by their Musical Director John Berryman ALCM LTCL, headed for the International Conference Centre, Harrogate to take part in the 1st Section National Finals. Kibworth won their place by coming second to Foss Dyke Band from Lincoln at the Midlands Area Regional Qualifying Contest in Burton on Trent in March and were matched against 16 other qualifying bands from all over the Great Britain. The set test piece was an arrangement of music from the Ballet "A Perfect Fool" by Holst, and had received a mixed reaction from the Band members with one overheard to say "It's a bit like Marmite, you either love it or hate it!" It was, however, to be a good choice for Kibworth. Drawn to play number 8 they took to the stage at 6pm and wowed the audience with an exciting performance. Then came a long wait, the audience and 4barsrest.com, the brass band web site still had us winning at the end of the contest but would the two adjudicators, who in true brass band tradition had been shut away in a canvas shelter so that they could hear the performance but not see who was playing, think. It was to be our day and The Kibworth Band were crowned 1st Section National Champions at around 9pm winning a contest banner, a trophy and prize money. A prize of a voucher towards the purchase of instruments was also awarded for the best instrumentalist on the day. This was won the percussion section of The Kibworth Band who generously donated it for use by our youth groups.
