The Kibworth Sound
In 1975 The Kibworth Band celebrates its seventieth anniversary. From humble beginnings it has grown in stature to be a leading force in the brass band movement, reaching the zenith of its achievements in the last decade. The Kibworth musicians have won the Midland Championship twice and in 1968 were placed seventh in the National Championship at London's Royal Albert Hall, improving that position to sixth the following year. In 1971 they won the W. D. and H. 0. Wills National Championships and in 1973 reached the semi-finals of the BBC Radio Three broadcast competition 'Challenging Brass'. The Band is well known to the general public by their frequent radio broadcasts and the success of their first record 'The Kibworth Band in Dunkirk'. Paul Wright was appointed Musical Director in 1972 and has brought to his task a wide range of professional experience in conducting, teaching and concert promotion. As a result the Kibworth Band has greatly expanded the range of its musical activities to become one of the Midland's leading concert bands.

Dunkirk
For many years thousands of Veterans of the epic evacuation from Dunkirk in 1940 have returned to France during the last weekend in May to attend a Service of Thanksgiving held on the beaches. From these now famous beaches over a third of a million soldiers and airmen of the Allied Forces were snatched from the very jaws of the enemy within the space of a few days. In May 1972, due to the achievement of one man, Dick Wilkins (Chairman of the Leicester Branch), funds were collected to enable the Kibworth Band, in the company of the Dunkirk Veterans, to visit France where they played, not only for the Service on the beach, but at many other functions associated with the Pilgrimage. The band, now a corporate member of the Dunkirk Veterans' Association, was an enormous success with the Veterans and French alike and its return is eagerly anticipated. This record has been made to commemorate what is hoped to be the first of many such visits

20 Halford Road
Formed in 1905, The Kibworth Band has enjoyed 90 years of music making. Few details of the band's early years are available but its continued existence would suggest that the successes of the past 30 years must, surely, mirror the years which preceded. Since the mid 1960's the band has continuously maintained a high standard in the field of contests. Twice, the title of Midland Regional Champions has been achieved. The Kibworth musicians are equally at home whilst entertaining audiences and have made many appearances with celebrities including Peter Skellern and the late Roy Castle. Originally a village band in the truest sense, today's members are drawn throughout the two counties of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. Nonetheless, close ties with the village are maintained.
